GFA to announce date for start of the league

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will announce the start of the date of the country's top-flight league by Friday after three months of delay following legal tussles which has left the competition in limbo.

The federation's vice president George Afriyie revealed that the Ghana Premier League will start in the coming weeks.

The path for the league to start looks to have been cleared by the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejecting the request by Tema Youth to prevent the start of the competition in its fight with Dreams FC over the
legality of the player Daniel Gozah.

The other outstanding bribery issue of Techiman City and Wa Africa United, which is before the Ethics Committee of the GFA, looks to have no bearing on the start of the competition.

Afriyie made the revelation on the transfer day deadline of today for the clubs in the Ghana top-flight to meet conditions to play in the league.

"We have latest by Friday to reveal the start date of the competition. We will make this revelation on the official website of the Ghana FA," George Afriyie told Asempa FM.

The news will come as a massive boost for clubs who are fighting for the start of the competition and football fans who are yearning for the top-flight league to commence.

This also paves the way for Division One League (DOL) to also start.
