The maiden edition of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) special invitation tournament has scheduled to take place in Sekondi Takoradi on November 20.
The newly created off-season tournament which has been branded G-6 will officially kick off on November 20, despite the media huffs and puffs surrounding the eligibility of some participants.
The tournament will take over from the traditional top four competition which usually ushers in the new season.
Dubbed as the home of football across the country, Sekondi Takoradi and its environments will be hosting the six clubs as they usher in the 2015/16 FCPPL.
Having successfully hosted the 2015 MTN FA Cup final showdown involving Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC, the Essipong complex will be hosting the six-club tournament that will be played on all play all format.
The top four clubs at the top of the log alongside the two finalists from the MTN FA Cup made the grade before boardroom points drag Hearts of Oak into 13th place.
Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Isaac Koomson, briefed sports crusader on the details of the tournament ahead of next week’s official launch. He called on the media, in particular, to highlight the tournament and give cause for continuity in the coming seasons.
“The competition is taking place in Sekondi Takoradi where all the matches will be played. I am calling on the media and all sports loving fans to patronise the maiden edition of the tournament so as to make it a success.” Mr. Koomson noted.
“All is set now, and the headline sponsors are ready as well. The jerseys are ready, and we are likely going to launch it next week if the FA Congress will not overshadow it. It is definitely coming on”. the GHALCA veep told sports crusader.
Ashgold threatened to pull out earlier, but it not clear whether the FCPPL champions have changed their minds as the kick off zooms closer. Medeama will join Chelsea, Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the race for the first silverware of the new season.
