Accra, Aug. 31, GNA - Gemini Life Insurance Company (GLICO) on Friday presented a cheque for GH=A21500 (15 million cedis) to the National U-17 team, Black Starlets for their wonderful exploits at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup Championship in South Korea. This is in fulfilment of an earlier pledge made to the team last July before they left for the Korean tournament.
Mr Emmanuel Edor, Marketing Manager of GLICO said the cheque was to redeem the promise made by the company to the Starlets in recognition of their wonderful performance.
He explained that his outfit paid GH=A2200 (two million cedis) each for the six goals scored during the preliminary stages and GH=A2300 (three million cedis) for the lone goal scored in the 1-0 defeat of Brazil last Wednesday.
Mr Edor added that the Starlets would be entitled to more bonus depending on their performance in the next stage. Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Education, Science and Sports who received the cheque on behalf of the team thanked GLICO for their kind gesture and encouraged other corporate bodies to emulate such support to reward excellence.
He urged the Starlets to go all out in Saturday's quarter-final clash against Peru to ensure a smooth sail into the medal zone.
