GNF hopeful of government support

While preparing for the Senior Africa Netball Championship in Uganda, the Ghana Netball Federation (GNF) has been assured of government’s support to participate in the tournament

The Federation received an assurance of financial support together with some incentives from the government when they paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the National Sports Authority on Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

The ministry of youth and sports has promised to pay for the team’s affiliation fee and consequently meet on others, after an agreement to revise the submitted budget.

President of GNF, Rev. Emmanuel Dzanie Nikoi, in an interaction after the meeting, said they have taken notice of the promises and are hopeful the outcome will be fruitful.

“In any case we have revised our budget and considerably come down within which we feel can be footed by the ministry. Our meeting however, with the Director General was successful. He said he is going to activate the system immediately.”

“For the affiliation fee, he has referred it to the accountant to take action and then for the others, he has promised to work around the clock to have it done. So, so far, so good. I think there are some positives and we hope that things work out well. “He explained.

The Federation after a successful AU Day tournament held at the University of Ghana, Legon will send 14 players to the championship which begins on Sunday, June 25.

Meanwhile, 21 players are currently in camp at Legon, Accra and have played some friendly matches. They are expected to play Coda Club of Damfa on Friday and then engage Hunters Netball Club of Winneba on Saturday, which will be their final friendly before they leave on Sunday morning.
