GNPC Foundation, the corporate social investment arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) today, Friday, July 13, 2018 cut sod to construct an ultra-modern AstroTurf at the Effiakuma Police Park in Takoradi.

The project according to a close source is expected to cost around $250,000.

Speaking at the ceremony, the chairman of the Board of trustees of GNPC Foundation, Nana Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II who doubles as the President of Western Regional house of chiefs said the move is to develop football in the region.

“It was just recently that Sekondi Hasaacas Football Club was relegated from the Ghana Premier League which I think was lack to quality pitches,” he said.

“So, we are here to cut the sod for the reconstruction of the Police Park to an AstroTurf for the entire community to benefit and to help lift soccer in the region again” – Nana Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II revealed.

The traditional football ground has seen the rise of many football stars in the western region and would be expected to be transformed from a sandy ground to an ultra-modern AstroTurf by GNPC in the next six months.
