The Premier League Board has directed that a minute’s silence should be observed before kick-off at all Ghana Premier League (GPL) match venues as a mark of respect to the former Ghana coach and player Nana Charles Kumi Gyamfi who passed away on Wednesday at the Cocoa Clinic, Accra at age 85, just three months to his 86th birthday.

C.K as he was affectionately called in the football cycles was the first African footballer to play in Germany, when he joined Fortuna Dusseldorf in 1960.

He also played for the two biggest clubs in Ghana, Kotoko and Hearts of Oak and was even part of the Hearts team that won the Ghana league in both 1956/57 and 1958 season.

Nana Gyamfi was a regular member of the Black Stars and captained the team, before becoming assistant coach and then head coach.

He was the first coach to win three Africa Cup of Nations ((1963, 1965 & 1982) and was only equaled by Hassan Shehata of Egypt in 2010.

In recognition of the passing away of the ex footballer and national team coach, all premier players are also expected to put on black armbands during the weekend’s Premier League matches.
