GPL: Hearts, Medeama split points

Striker Gilbert Fiamenyoh once again announced he has come off age by scoring both goals for Hearts of Oak in their 2-2 stalemate with Medeama SC at the Essipong Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The former Heart of Lions man has now scored five from his opening three (3) games of the season.

The 25-year-old burly forward had opened the scoring two minutes before the interval but Benjamin Bature levelled for Medeama in the 55th minute. Fiamenyoh then gilded his early season glistening scoring form by registering his second brace of the season when he ensured Hearts were put into the lead on the hour mark.

But former Hearts-target Hans Kwoffie restored parity for the Yellow and Mauves.

Though Hearts failed to claim the maximum points from the game, Fiamenyoh’s scoring form is a big news for the former champions who have now amassed four points from a possible nine.

Fiamenyoh went into the game with three goals from his opening two games (WAFA and Berekum Chelsea) and repeated his brace against Chelsea yet in a disappointing defensive display from Herbert Addo’s men.

In a story similar to the Berekum Chelsea loss, Hearts had taken a commanding 2-1 lead but failed to protect their lead as Medeama fought back to snatch a point from the game.

Herbert Addo slightly altered the line-up for the Chelsea game by introducing Ghana U20 keeper Seidu Mutawakil who took the place of Tetteh Luggard – axed from the team.

But Ivorian defender Robin Gnagne failed to recover in time for the game; meaning Vincent Atinga came into central defence as Abraziz Abankwah lost his place. Richard Yamoah and Fatau Mohammed both started the game.

Medeama paraded former Kotoko striker Nathaniel Asamoah as well as skillful wing-man Kwame Boahene.

The outcome of the game means Hearts will still not be able to gatecrash the top four as they occupy fifth place and could drop further down as games as fixed for Sunday.

Fiamenyoh’s opening goal was the results of team-work as they got achieved a beautiful combination play ‘Pa-pa-pa’ display betweent Isaac Mensah and Paul Acquah for Fiamenyoh to finish.
