The Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) has organised a one-day seminar for selected Sports Journalists to learn the rules and regulations governing the discipline.
The seminar held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday forms part of GTF efforts to equip the media with information on the sport and the techniques involved and how to report accurately during local and international competitions.
The Technical Director of GTF, David Churcher and Referee Yakubu Lea took their turns to educate the Journalists present on the types of court, shots an athlete can employ and how to win points and defeat an opponent.
The General Secretary of GTF Phillipina Frimpong said ‘‘we want to show appreciation to what some of the Journalists have been doing in terms of reportage. I see some of you coming to the court during competitions and you ask questions concerning the discipline.
‘‘And I realize it would be best if you knew the rules governing the game and it helps a journalist to enjoy the coverage with lots of enthusiasm. So we met as a board and we discussed it to have a seminar for selected media houses to be taken through the actual game situations and rules governing it’’.
The General Secretary noted that, the GTF will extend the initiative to the other parts of the Regions however to Journalists who are interested to learn the sport.
