GUSA Games underway in Kumasi

The Sixth mini-Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), Games got underway at the Paa Joe Stadium in Kumasi at the weekend with the University of Cape Coast (UCC), thrashing the University of Ghana (UG), 5-1 in the opening match of the Women’s football category.

The winners, right from the referee’s blast of the whistle, mounted pressure on UG, scoring an early goal to destabilize their opponents and went ahead to carry the day with a well-rehearsed strategy.

A demoralized UG side looked on helplessly as the UCC banged in the needed goals before they scored a consolation in the dying minutes of the match to put the UCC in a pole position to making history.

In another match, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), piped University of Education, Winneba (UEW), 1-0.

The week-long tournament is being hosted by the KNUST and the other participating teams include the University of Development Studies (UDS), University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), and University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Ms. Janet Ampong, Secretary-General of GUSA, told the GNA Sports that the programme had been designed to select a team to represent the nation at the World University Games in South Korea, scheduled for the middle of this year.

The participants would compete for honours in football, athletics and racket games.
