Akim Tafo (E/R), Sep. 17, GNA - Joseph Gaglo of Tafo Golf Club returned a gross score of 70 to win the first Ghana Commercial Bank Invitational Golf Championship played at the Cocoa Research Institute's Golf Course at Tafo in the Eastern Region on Saturday. Gaglo who played 36 back and 34 front with a Handicap of three, made history by winning the maiden event as he beat a field of 100 golfers who participated in the competition and was crowned the "Golf-Hene''.
George Osei came second with 71 gross, followed by Kwame Yeboah at the third position with 73 gross with K.A. Yeboah placing fourth with 74 gross, while Felix Quarshie came fifth with 75 gross. Veteran Mona Captan won the Ladies event with 80 gross followed by Elizabeth Aku Yabak at second position with 90 gross while Victoria Adjei took the third position with 95 gross.
Dr F.K. Oppong, Captain of the Tafo Golf Club praised the Bank for sponsoring the championship and called on other corporate bodies to help develop the sport.
Mr Lawrence Adu Mante, Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank Limited, said it is the policy of the Bank to support communities in which it transacts its business.
He said in this direction, the bank would continue to support the Club and ensure that the event becomes an annual affair. Mr Adu Mante was assisted by Mr Price Kofi Amoabeng, President of the Tafo Golf Club, to present prizes to the winners.
