German-born Takyi has applied to play for Ghana

Former Germany youth international Charles Takyi has applied to Fifa to switch his nationality to enable him play for Ghana, MTNFootball.com can exclusively reveal.

The 26-year-old has written to the world governing body to approve his decision to play for his country of birth.

Fifa insiders have told MTNFootball that the Ghana FA has supplied the necessary documents to help in completing the switch.Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi is pushing for all players available to play for the country to commit to the Black Stars.

"We have put in an application to Fifa for Takyi to play for Ghana. He has provided all the documents and we are waiting for the response from Fifa," Nyantakyi told MTNFootball.com.

The world governing body will have to investigate Takyi's application before the switch is approved.

The move by the Ghana FA boss comes just two days after he convinced Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong to commit his international future to the Black Stars.

The 26-year-old Takyi represented Germany at the youth level but is still eligible to play for the Black Stars as he was born in Ghana and his parents come from the country.

The St Pauli striker has been in form in recent times and has scored some amazing goals for his club.
