Germany suspends high jumper Mensah for doping

BERLIN - High-jumper Amewu Mensah was suspended for two years by Germany's athletic authorities on Wednesday after she tested positive for an anabolic steroid.

Mensah, an Olympic finalist and part of an anti-drug campaign, tested positive for the banned steroid oxandrolone after a June 4 meet in Rehlingen.

Mensah said she unknowingly ingested the drug through dietary supplements shortly before competing. Her ban will run until July 19, 2003.
