Ghana Athletics President threatens to resign

Tension is brewing between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Athletics Association over the reported decision by the former to send young athlete Martha Bissah to the All African Games.

In a heated phone argument with the sports minister yesterday, the GAA President Professor Francis Dodoo threatened to resign if the ministry insists on the decision, Sportscrusader.com has exclusively gathered.

In what has been described by the Ghana Athletics Association as direct interference in its affairs, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed has suggested that Bissah be sent to the Congo Brazzaville Games.

Sportscrusader.com sources have revealed that Dr Mustapha Ahmed who is in Congo Brazzaville ahead of the Games phoned Professor Francis Dodoo and it is reported that a heated argument ensued between the two with the ministry insisting on the decision to send Bissah.

The conversation lasted for thirty eight minutes with the ministry threatening to resign upon his return to Ghana if the minister doesn’t soften his stance.

The decision to send Martha Bissah to the All African Games in Congo Brazzaville in disarray as National javelin record holder John Ampomah has also threatened to withdraw from the 2015 All Africa Games.

Bissah failed to qualify for the Games after recording 2:11.84 min at the just ended GAA Special All Africa Games qualifier at the El Wak stadium last Friday, having recorded a season’s best 2.08.27m on 18-July.

The ministry has come under intense pressure after it emerged that they intend to send the Junior Youth Olympian to the 2015 All African Games despite failing to make the qualification mark.
