Ghana Beach Soccer Association for congress Friday

The Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) will go to polls today Friday to elect their executives who will steer affairs of the baby Association for the next for or two years depending upon the duration that delegates should agree on.

After an impressive unveiling of the CAL Bank sponsorship for the GBSA Premier League and announcement of the GH C 40,000 support for the clubs, all seem to be set for the kick off of the much awaited competition to be held at the La Pleasure Beach in Accra.

After the Ada Gala Knock Out which exposed a lot of organizational problems of the GBSA, the Association might have leant its lessons and the delegates who will vote or take decisions may be guided by the immediate past events to put the association in good stead for the future.

According to Bawa Fuseini, the Secretary General of the Association, the constitution of GBSA will be approved at the congress including the guide lines for the leagues as there will be Premier and Division One competitions as well as a Knock Out competition and other tournaments to raise awareness of the new competition and draw more fans and support.

He expressed that the key positions to be vied for at the congress are the President which Yaw Ampofo Ankrah is highly tipped to win, the Vice President which four clubs officials are contesting, including Benard Brock of Osu Dolphins, Fiifi Davies of Senya Breku Sharks and a representative of Ada Assurance, as well as the Organising Secretary position which Sammy Heywood Okine of Chorkor Blue Whales is highly favoured to sweep the votes. Other positions which may be hotly contested are the Public Relations Officer (PRO) where Amanor Seraphim is contesting and Cecil M. Mc Francis of Tegbe Youth at Keta for the Treasurer position.

After the elections, various committees will be formed to run the Association.

Bawa Fuseini urged the delegates and observers to the first ever GBSA congress to behave well at the event and take positive and ideal decisions that will benefit the association. He apologized to his fans and others admirers of beach soccer for his absence during meetings of the executives and club officials.

Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah told yours truly the GBSA has plans to be the most viabrant and most successful sports Association in Ghana and he promised to land a lucrative sponsorship deal for the division one league which some of the participants have labeled as the Big Beach Soccer League of Ghana. Meanwhile the teams who will play the CAL Bank League are Dansoman, Osu Dolphins, LAYOCA, Wuo Gbee, East Legon Sharks, Senya Breku Sharks, Havedzi, Keta Sunset, Tegbi Youth and Ada Assurance who hosted and lost at the Gala but were fixed due to a protest. The sensational Chorkor Blue Whales were kicked out of the Premier League after their founder has contributed much to the promotion and development of the GBSA, for being late to the Ada event. Clubs like Havedzi and Dansoman refused to play Chorkor because they feared they will lose and not participate in the Premiership.

Meanwhile, Chorkor Blue Whales players have agreed to play in the Big League and promised to qualify next season to join the Premier clubs and possibly provide players to star for Ghana.

“We were hurt not to be allowed to take part in the Gala. But we have taken every thing easy and promise to win the Knock Out and the Division One League to please our supporters” said Saviour Tamakloe, assistant captain of the team.

One young player, Michael Tagoe said his morale died when the announcer said those who just arrived will not play after a three hour driver. He noted that the best team was not seen on the day.
