Millions will be watching the epic Ghana-Canada friendly, will you? In 1985, Ghana met head-on with Canada in a President's Cup competition in South Korea. The outcome did not go in favor of Ghana, who lost by 2 goals scored by Dave Norman G and Dale Mitchell of the Canadian team.
Father of Kwame Ayew, one of Ghana's most prolific players in the person of Abedi Pele, was the only player who put a goal in the name of Ghana on the score sheet that day in Seoul.
I have no idea how huge the Ghanaian fan base was like in the Asian nation of South Korea back in that 1980s game, but I surely want to believe that out of the roughly 5,000 attendees reported, some Ghanaians were in the crowd cheering up team-Ghana in her very first game against Canada, despite the 2-1 loss to the Black Stars.
The Senior national men's team of Ghana in recent years have developed an astounding pedigree that has placed them miles and miles ahead of their Canadian counterparts. The flag of Ghana today dances high among that of other great football countries in the likes of Brazil and Spain.
With impressive performances, in recent FIFA World Cup finals, and in the last African championships, Ghana is today rubbing shoulders with the big teams and has one of the world's highest earning soccer players in the person of current captain Asamoah Gyan.
Although Ghana has suffered loss in the hands of Germany and the USA among other teams at World Cup Finals, that has not happened without enjoying wins, such as a 1-0 win over Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup in Germany, ironically though, Ghana will be playing Canada in the USA, one of her arch rivals and the Americans will no doubt be spying on this game.
