The Ghana Cricket Association at their 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 26, has set up a five (5) member Committee to Review the current Constitution.

Setting up of the Committee, one of the major decisions made at the AGM became necessary as some loop holes were realized in the current Constitution of the Association with comparisons to updated versions of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) Constitutions after it was tabled to delegates by the Vice President Oscar Provencal.

The members of the Committee include Lawyer Douglas Djarbeng, Oscar Provencal, Mahesh Narra, Bruce Okine and Angela Cassandra Allotey with Seth Nti as their Secretary. They are to work on the Constitution for an adoption at next year’s AGM.

President of the Association, Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare in his Address touched on administration and governance, development, as well as events and competitions.

Pertinent among the President’s Address was the resignation and appointment of new officers into vacant positions.

Angela Allotey, who was co-founder of Turf Cricket Academy was proposed for the position of a Treasurer by the Executive Board and Congress agreed for her to replace Philip Debrah, who resigned on October 2018, few months after he was elected into office.

“The Treasurer, Mr Philip Debrah Danquah resigned. The Cricket Operations Officer, Mr Henry Benjamin Ackom, also resigned from his position in April 2019. Mr Eugene King has since taken over the position. The senior national Men’s Coach, Mr Kofi Anafie has been given extra responsibility as the High Performance manager whilst Mr Obed Harvey has been appointed as Coach for the female team and also as assistant High performance manager.” Mr Asare said.

After accepting to serve, Lawyer Djarbeng swore into office, Angela Allotey as she became the first female to serve on the Executive Board.

While development of the game became the main topics for deliberation for other business, the house agreed that all clubs, academy’s and regional Associations must development the game but with GCA’s recognition and approval.

John Kennedy Koranteng, who represented the Director General of the National Sports Authority commended the GCA President and encouraged regional Associations to make themselves known by forming Clubs.

“I must commend the President for the work done so far. The development and promotion of the game is what the NSA encourages and appreciates. We must develop the game but ensure it goes through the right processes. Regional Association must make their presence and existence felt by forming Clubs. If people try to develop any sport, they end up forming another Association. The NSA doesn’t want the development in the law courts but on the field, the pitches, and ovals.”

It was a successful 4-hour AGM after all as many excellent suggestions tabled towards the development of the game was accepted with action to be taken.
