Ghana FA meets on Monday over league delay

Kwesi Nyantakyi - GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi - GFA President

Ghana Football Association Emergency Committee will hold a stakeholders meeting on Monday to discuss issues affecting the commencement of the new season, an official has disclosed.

Initially scheduled for kickoff on December 20, the elite competition is unlikely to start on the said date due to a series of setbacks including disciplinary issues, legal battles and lack of sponsorship.

“It is a worry to the GFA, the Executive Committee, the Emergency Committee as well as the president [Kwesi Nyantakyi],” Ayiah told Joy FM.

“What the GFA intends doing is to invite all the clubs for a stakeholders’ meeting on Monday for us to decide the best way forward.

“We have a league calendar which we abide by, but we have a situation involving matters of litigation.

“We also migrated from the Caf platform to the FIFA platform, so the clubs had to be taken through registration processes.

“The ideal situation was that the league would start after the registration process.

“Unfortunately, there is a case pending review with another at the Ethics Committee and that case can take forever.”

With the championship unlikely to begin on December 20, there have been reports that a new January 10 date has been scheduled.
