Ghana FA rejects Accam's call-up reports

The Ghana Football Association say reports that David Accam has been handed a late call-up to the Black Stars are untrue.

Avram Grant's side are currently preparing in Dubai, UAE, for their crunch 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Egypt on Sunday.

Accam was a notable absentee in Ghana's 23-man squad for the Alexandria showdown, together with skipper Asamoah Gyan and Sassuolo's Alfred Duncan, who are both injured.

On Monday, however, Accam's Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire announced on the official website that the 26-year-old had been invited for the fixture, and was set to join his teammates in Dubai ahead of departure for Egypt.

The GFA, though, had not confirmed the invite, as reported by Goal, but the status quo has now changed as the football governing body made a public statement on the issue via Twitter on Wednesday.

Accam was adjudged Fire's Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer of the season after netting nine times in 24 league outings.

He has made nine appearances and scored once for Ghana, having made his bow in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda in 2014.

Ghana need to avoid defeat on Sunday to be in good position of reaching their fourth World Cup.

The Black Stars were held to a goalless draw by Uganda in their group opener last month.

Egypt, on the other hand, beat Congo away in Brazzaville to put themselves top of Group E.

Sunday's match will be played at the Borg El Arab Stadium.
