Ghana FA shortlists FIVE for Black Stars job

GHANASoccernet.com can confirm that former Ghana coach Milovan Rajavec is among a five-man shortlist for the vacant Black Stars coaching job.

The Serbian will join four other Europeans- Bernd Schuster (German), Marco Tardelli (Italian), ex-Holland international Patrick Kluivert and Israeli Avram Grant- to face an interview panel headed by Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The quintet was shortlisted by the Select Committee headed by Ghana FA vice president Fred Crenstil and supported by Fred Pappoe and Francis Oti Akenteng.

A date and venue is yet to be confirmed by the Ghana federation.

In total, 32 coaches applied for the position which was advertised following the dismissal of Kwesi Appiah last month.

The next Black Stars coach should be named before November’s final 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The race is wide open with all shortlisted applicants capable of leading the Black Stars for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and beyond.

Tardelli, a World Cup winner with Italy in 1992 and former coach of Juventus and Inter Milan, is the oldest at age 60.

He also has experience coaching on the continent after leading Egypt between 2004-2005.

Kluivert, 38, was assistant coach to Louis Van Gaal at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and has a rich playing career featuring for Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and Newcastle.

Grant is remembered for leading English giants Chelsea to the final of the 2008 UEFA Champions League.

He also coached West Ham United and Portsmouth in the Premiership.

Former Real Madrid and Getafe coach Schuster is also a credible candidate.
