he Ghana National Open Chess championship will kicks start on Saturday, 12 March to Sunday, 13 March 2016 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The tournament, which is dubbed Kees Memorial Championship will see over 100 of participants competing for a slot in order to be chosen to represent Ghana at Chess Olympia in Azerbaijan come August.

In an interview with sportscrusader.com the Secretary General of the Ghana Chess Association (GCA) Madam Christine Ashley said “every Ghanaian is encouraged to partake in the tournament, if only you think you are good enough to represent Ghana at international championship”.

She emphasized that five players have already been selected, so the top five players at the upcoming champions will add up to the already existing players who will engage in other competition to enable the association select the final five players to represent the country at the Olympics games in Azerbaijan.
