Ghana Premier League: Kotoko dare Elmina Sharks

Elmina Sharks Elmina Sharks

Asante Kotoko will be next after Berekum Chelsea to face the wrath of Elmina Sharks when the two teams face off at the Nduom Sports Stadium in week 26 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The game will be the two teams second ever meeting in the Ghana Premier League after Elmina Sharks gained qualification into the Ghana league last year.

The very first time they met was in the 3rd week of the 2017/2018 league season first round when a lapse in concentration resulted in a 1-0 loss to the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Stadium after playing out the 6 minutes additional time.

Both teams have had contrasting fortunes since that eventful game as Sharks lost 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park in Sunyani while Asante Kotoko on the other hand have seen their challenge for the premier league title boosted with a 2-1 win over relegation-bound, Bolga All Stars, at the Baba Yara Stadium after returning from a fatal car accident that claimed the life of their deputy equipment officer, Kofi Asare.

Sharks have lost three home games this season to Aduana Stars, West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) and Accra Hearts of Oak. But the introduction of coach Yaw Akyeampong seem to have stemmed the tide of poor results as he has overseen two home wins in his three games since he took charge of the team following the decision of management to ask Kobina Amissah to step aside.

The game against Asante Kotoko will be seen as the biggest game at the Nduom Sports Stadium as the Porcupine Warriors are known to draw massive crowd anytime they play in the GPL home or away.

From their preparations observed so far, it is crystal clear they are very much aware of the threat their Kumasi opponents pose and are feverishly preparing for them. A win for Sharks will stake their claim in the league, sending warning signals to their opponents that next season shall be a different chapter in their lives as premiership title contenders.
