Head coach of Legon Cities, Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin, has commented on the ongoing departure of players from the Ghanaian top-flight league.

The mass exodus of players has impacted the quality of the Ghana Premier League and other domestic leagues.

Many players who perform well tend to join clubs in other African countries or move to Europe for better opportunities.

Speaking to Kessben FM, as reported by Footballghana.com, Fabin emphasized that player exodus will continue unless the government provides financial support to the Ghana Premier League.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about money. If teams from Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Rwanda can sign our top players and pay them $4,000 or $5,000 monthly, while players here in Ghana, like those at Kotoko, earn GH¢10,000, which is less than $1,000, our players will definitely leave. Ghanaian clubs can’t afford to pay $2,000 to a player. Some of these African countries were far behind us in football but are now doing better by attracting our players with better pay.

“Our league isn’t bad, but it’s all about money. If our leaders can invest in our league like some countries do, we will perform much better. If the government could assist us financially, we could retain most of our top players. But until then, the player exodus will continue. The government should support our league financially, and I believe it will thrive,” he said.
