The former Black Stars forward is unhappy with the entire system of Ghana Premier League

Former Black Stars striker Godwin Attram has joined the growing list of people to criticise the Ghana Premier League.

The forward, a member of Great Olympics’ side that suffered relegation at the end of the 2014-15 season, returned to the local league after several years in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

“I left the league 18 years ago and on my return, nothing has changed,” Attram told CitiFM.

“In terms of coverage, it is really poor because you can only count about two cameras around the entire stadium and that’s not right.

“You need cameras all over to enhance visibility and analysis.”

Attram was among three returnees, including former Blackpool goalkeeper Richard Kingson and Dan Quaye, to have joined Olympics following their promotion to the Ghanaian topflight.

“In places like Saudi Arabia and Dubai [United Arab Emirates], marketing has taken the league to the rest of the world and this brings in a lot of money, so why can’t we do the same here?

“It’s all about the media and they market their league very well and this is very important.

“Back then, we all watched the [German] Bundesliga and not the English Premiership but due to the use of the media, the story has now changed.

“If we were doing same with our league, believe me our league will rank among the best out there.”

The local topflight has been widely branded unattractive and unprofessional due to a range of problems including poor spectatorship, poor infrastructure and facilities, legal and disciplinary challenges as well as unattractive incentives for winners.
