Ghana Football Association executive committee will converge on January 4 at Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram for an extraordinary congress to confirm the date for the kick-off of the 2017 Ghana Premier League season, Goal understands.
The Premier League Board initially revealed that the campaign would begin on December 18, with new arrivals Great Olympics, Elmina Sharks and Bolga All Stars - promoted from division one - to replace Techiman City, Sekondi Hasaacas and New Edubiase United, who were relegated from the top-flight last season.
Although players' registration for the new season commenced in November, litigations between Tema Youth and Dreams FC as well Brong Ahafo United and Bolga All Stars halted all laid down plans.
However, with all cases now resolved, the Super Cup between league champions Wa All Stars and FA Cup winners Bechem United is all set to hold.
According to close sources, the Super Cup has been fixed for January 22 at the Accra Sports Stadium, while the launch of the GPL takes place three days later. There will also be the reintroduction of the Gala competition between all sixteen premier league clubs in a knockout phase between January 28 and 29.
The first round of the league is expected to end in April, to resume early May.
Goal understands that matchday two games involving Wa All Stars and Bechem will be postponed due to their participation in the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup.
