The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama has indicated that Ghana has the logistics and infrastructure to accommodate the proposed CAF university.

In a speech read for him by Mr. Joe Aggrey, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister designate during the launch of the inaugural CAF 2001 Awards in Accra, Aliu said Ghana is prepared to put its University and Sports College at Winneba at the disposal of CAF for a regional football institute.

The Vice President said to improve the quality of the game in Africa, it is necessary that CAF and FIFA invest more and support national football authorities in Africa with improved facilities.

"In this regard, I will propose for the consideration of CAF and FIFA that on a record regional basis, a tertiary sports college is adopted, equipped and staffed to train the trainers, research into the game and produce the footballers Africa needs."

Alhaji Aliu explained that the rate at which Africa is losing her footballers to Europe, makes such training institutions even more urgent.

He reechoed Africa's right to host the World Cup, adding, "this will not only further popularise the game, but will attract more investment in the sport.

We strongly support the idea that the World Cup should be rotated on continental basis."
