Ghana Supporters flight grounded over permission

Over 200 supporters who travelled from Natal to Fortaleza to support the Black Stars in their game against Germany spent the rest of the night at the Forteleza Airport, due to flight complications.

This follows the decision of the Airport Authorities in Fortaleza to ground the aircraft that flew the fans from Natal to Fortaleza after the America Airline –Dynamic Airlines failed to secure permission to operate domestic business in Brazil.

The game, which ended 6:00pm (9:00pm Ghana team), saw fans spending the rest of the night at the airport whilst Kobena Mensah Woyome, Danny Annan, Vice Chairman of National Democratic Congress (NDC), officials of Travel Matters and the crew from the airline tried to resolve the issue.

The fans, some of whom slept on the floor whilst other hanged in the seats at the departure hall, went through the entire day and night without food from the officials.

The delegation included Ghana 2014 World Cup Ambassadors like Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo, Gyedu Blay Ambulley, Augustine Arhinful, C.K Akunnor and Amanzeba Nat Brew, as well as journalists.

The flight complications were finally resolved at 6:00am (9:00am Ghana time), but this was preceded by serious agitations from the fans, some of whom attacked Kobena Mensah Woyome-MP for South Tongu, physically and accused him of bad leadership.

Meanwhile, over 400 fans were also left at the Natal Airport after they were told by officials that the second flight to convey them to Fortaleza had developed faults.

The disappointed fans raised protests at the airport and this compelled the security officials at the airport to call for reinforcement to restore calm.

On arrival at the supporters camp, the disappointed fans wearing red arm bands staged a demonstration against the leadership whilst some hurled insults at the coordinators with Agbesi Nutsu – the coordinator at the camp receiving his fair share of the attacks.
