Khartoum, Sudan, Feb. 24, GNA - Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Nortey Dua has said that the election of the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi unto the CAF Executive Committe= e is in the right order.
He told GNA Sports in Khartoum after the elections that Ghana has achieved some much during the past few years to deserve to be represented o= n the highest decision making body of African football.
"Ghana football has developed and we are currently ranked the best t= eam in Africa and the 15th in the world. At the Angola Africa Cup of Nations, w= e were in the final and at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, everyone saw what we did. "With all these, Ghana deserves the position, a place on the CAF Executive Committee," an elated Nortey Dua said.
The Deputy Minister said Nyantakyi's rise to the CAF Executive will have a positive impact on Ghana football and has therefore called for all t= o support him achieve the needed success.
"It means a lot for Ghana football. If we (Ghana) want to express an issue with CAF, we have our man there and the response will be faster." Nii Nortey Dua also commended delegates who voted for the GFA Presiden= t to ensure his convincing victory.
Nyantakyi garnered an overwhelming 34 votes against 19 by his main competitor, Anjorin Moucharafou of Benin during the elections held at the CAF 33rd Ordinary General Assembly in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. He becomes the fifth Ghanaian after Ohene Djan (1961-1966), Kobina Hagan (1961-1962), Nana Fredua Mensah (1968-1972) and Samuel Okyere (1990-1994) to sit on the Executive Committee of the continent's soccer governing body.
