Ghana fans want Kwarasey

The results of the latest Goal Ghana poll are in and you have voted overwhelmingly in favour of Adam Kwarasey returning as the Black Stars’ number one.

In light of recent suggestions that the Portland Timbers stopper is in line for a national team recall, we asked Goal Ghana readers not whether you’d like to see Kwarasey back in the squad, but whether you want him as the side’s number one ahead of Razak Brimah.

You voted in your droves, and an overwhelming 87.2 percent of you want to see Kwarasey back as the side’s starting goalkeeper.

This means that only 12.8 percent want to see Brimah or another alternative, such as Ashanti Gold’s Fatau Dauda, as the Black Stars’ stopper for the qualifiers for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kwarasey last featured for Ghana at the 2014 World Cup, where he started the Black Stars’ tournament as first-choice, but was replaced by Fatau Dauda after the opener against the United States.

The keeper’s tournament ended in acrimony as he was accused of a dispute with the national-team goalkeeper coach, an accusation that Kwarasey later confirmed.

The former Stromgodset man missed the entirety of the Afcon 2015 qualifying programme and was also overlooked for the tournament proper as Kwesi Appiah and then Avram Grant chose to look elsewhere.

However, the Israeli coach recently visited the United States and met with Kwarasey.

A return to the national side was on the agenda, and the stopper confirmed afterwards that he was open to a return to the Black Stars fold.

If Goal Ghana readers have their way, it looks like Kwarasey would usurp Brimah as the side’s Number One, rather than simply join the team as a backup option to Brimah, Dauda or Ernest Sowah.
