"Ghana has history and reputation"~ Coach

(From Veronica Commey, GNA Special Correspondent in Hanover, Germany}

Hanover, Oct. 25, GNA ~ Coach of the Black Queens, Anthony Edusei has said Ghana walks into the 7th African Women's Championship in South Africa with a reputation and history enough to propel the team to excel and achieve success.

Ghana, a perennial tournament favourites, has played in all but three of the last six grand finales of the eight - team competition and are yet to win the biannual tourney, but Coach Edusei says he has a strong team to make a push for the ultimate.

Coach Edusei told GNA Sports in Hanover that "the team is strong and these players are plying some good football. We also have history and reputation and we will push harder for the ultimate."

The Queens exited at the group state in the last competition in Equatorial Guinea but the coach believes Ghana cannot be written off because of that experience which has been tagged as the team's worst in the history of the competition.

"On the basis of where we are coming from in terms of the last competition, it is natural to ask questions about our chances but Equatorial Guinea did it at her second attempt, why not Ghana", he quizzed.

Ghana are pitted in Group B alongside defending Champions, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria and Cameroon in the two week fiesta that qualifies the two finalist to the next FIFA World Cup billed for Germany in 2011.

Touching on the chances of the Queens in the group, Coach Edusei expressed a good measure of respect for all three teams in Group B but said his charges will push harder for a positive result in South Africa. "All the teams that have qualified for the tournament have an equal chance of winning the tourney and it is for us to put in the extra effort to come out tops."

Ghana ranked second on the continent and 43rd in the world, play her group opener with North Africans, Algeria who are fourth in Africa and 66 in the world on November 2.
