Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi has hailed the Premier League as better in quality than the South African top flight which remains one of the most resourced leagues in Africa.
The Ghanaian Premier League has been widely criticized for the lack of genuine quality which has translated into declined rate of patronage.
Budding players with local teams are always in the haste to move abroad to earn good wages.
Clubs in Ghana struggle to keep hold of their best talents simply because they are relatively impoverished and cannot pay competitive wages.
This has led to the Ghana FA to organize a two-day marketing and club licensing seminar for Premier League and second tier clubs to devise ways of making the Ghanaian top flight highly attractive so it is able to secure the required sponsorship.
But GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi remains firm in his believe of the relative better quality of the Ghanaian top flight as compared to that of South Africa.
“The fact that the South Africa Premier League is the most resourced does not mean that it is the best in terms of quality football,” Nyantakyi said in opening the seminar on Monday.
“When it comes to quality of football, Ghana ranks amongst the best in Africa and yet we’re one of the poorest in terms of resources.
“This may be linked even to the size of our economy but are there ways that we can go around these challenges and make our league that attractive so we can raise money and make our league very competitive.”
The two-day seminar being organized by the Ghana FA has ace South African journalist Thomas Kwenaite as one of its resource persons.
Other eminent personalities like Dr. Samuel Ofei, Siboniso Ngubane, Dr. Kweku Ofosu Asare and Ibrahim Sannie Daara will all be taking participants through one ways to device marketing strategies towards attracting sponsorship.
