Ghana league records high penalty rate

The international football break is loathed by many especially as it takes away the
buzz of domestic
football leagues. SuperSport Ghana has taken to number-crunching of the Ghana Premier
League after six matchdays.

94 – Number of goals scored altogether in the 48 games
played, averaging 1.96 per game.

66 – The number of players who have scored in the league.

8 - New Edubiase’s Emmanuel Baffour is the top goal scorer,
having scored in every game, except against Hearts. He did score in that one,
too, but was ruled offside.

60.4% – Percentage of 48 games played that have been won at
home - corresponds to 29 games.

16% – Percentage of the 94 goals scored that have been
penalties – corresponds to 15 goals. That is incredibly high.

1.83 – Highest per game average score. Kotoko lead the way,
Edubiase are second with

1.33 goals per game, averagely.

0.33 – Meanest defence are Dwarfs and Hearts, conceding this number of goals per
game, averagely.

3- Most consistent winning streak so far. Kotoko won three
games between matchdays 2 and 4.

4 – Most consistent losing streak so far. Wassaman United
lost all games between matchdays 3 and 6.

4 – The highest number of clean sheets this season, recorded
by Dwarfs, Hearts of Oak and Liberty.

11 - Most number of goals scored by a team. Kotoko have been
the most lethal attack.

1- Number of hattricks scored, by Emmanuel Baffour (matchday 1)

8 – Number of braces scored. In order: Seidu Bancey (matchday
2), Aaron Amoah, Ahmed Toure (matchday 3), Emmanuel Clottey (matchday 5); Michael
Helegbe, Emmanuel Baffour, Yusif Ayoma, Louis Agyemang (matchday 6).

Notes
After just six games, these figures may look very premature
in their consequence because some teams are obviously just picking up form. Travelling
to cover Ghana Premier League games has exposed the almost total lack of the
most basic statistical work in our teams to assist decision making. Hopefully,
basic calculator work like this should motivate and inspire teams to do better.
