The Ghana Armwrestling Federation will join the elite countries in the sport at the 39th World Armwrestling Championship/Congress in Budapest, Hungary from September 1-11, 2017.

Whilst in Hungary, President Charles Osei Asibey and General Secretary/Technical Director Husseini Akueteh Addy will partake in the World Congress, Africa Continental Meeting, network and seize the opportunity to solicit for technical support for further development of the Sport in Ghana.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) will also learn at first hand what goes into the organisation of such championships so as to replicate same during Ghana's host of the 2018 Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra.

Mr. Osei Asibey who's also the Deputy General Secretary for Africa will speak for the continent at the congress whilst Mr. Addy in building his capacity will participate in the referees evaluation seminar.

The Federation has invested in the World Congress amidst lack of investment in sports in Ghana knowing that the congress is where major decisions governing the sport are taken.

“We're aggressively embarking on the mission to make Armwrestling a household sport in Ghana, hence the continuous investment in training, athlete development and appearances at major events”-Charles Osei Asibey.

Arsen Hadjitodorov, President of World Armwrestling said in his welcome statement ahead of the championships “Armwrestling keeps developing fast, we have received many requests for affiliation from a different continent and we shall approve at the congress. Thankfully Armwrestling is now a Paralympic sport whiles the application with the International Olympic Committee is pending”.

About 1000 Armwrestlers from over 80 countries will be at the championships which will precede Congress on Sunday.
