Mainz 05 attacker Issah Abass is hoping for better fortunes next season after seeing his first year in Germany marred by injuries.

The 20-year-old, who joined the 05ers from Slovenian side Olimpija, has only returned from injury with three games to go until the end of the campaign.

He has made only one league appearance (of just eight minutes) since his move last summer and has been a peripheral figure in Sandro Schwarz's set-up due to a loss of form and injuries, his last fitness setback coming in March.

"I'm really happy to be back," Abass told Kickgh.

"It always feels great to return from an injury and I am back to help the team.

"We have [three more games] to end the season.

"It was very sad to suffer an injury in the middle of the season but next season will be fireworks.

"I pray to stay out of injuries next season."

Abass played 53 competitive games and netted 17 times for Olimpija, the tally including three goals in four appearances in the Europa League this season.

A former Ghana U-17 international, he moved to Slovenia from local club Asokwa Deportivo in 2017.
