Ghana’s Patrick ‘Mallet’ Okine failed to win the WBO Africa super featherweight title as he lost to the title holder Jeremiah Nakhatila.

The Bukom native suffers unfortunate round 3 TKO loss to the Namibian when he fell through the ropes, hit his head on the ground, injured himself and bled as a result and couldn’t continue their WBO Africa Super Featherweight title fight at the Ramatex Complex in Windhoek, Namibia on Tuesday night when he appeared to have won the opening two rounds.

“Hard luck, Okine slipped through the ropes in an attempt to lean and bounce back, unfortunately, the ropes were not fitted well so he slipped through and hit his head on the grounds which made it impossible to continue the fight due to excessive blood flow,” Dauda Fuseni, manager of Okine told Dornu’s Corner moments after the fight.

“He was doing very well until the unfortunate incident happened so the promoter is talking about giving him a rematch,” Okine’s manager Dauda Fuseni said.

The Ghanaian falls to 19-4-1, 16 KOs whilst Nakhatila who successfully defended the title on his country’s independence anniversary, current record stands at to 15-1, 11 KOs.
