Jordan Ayew hopes his Champions League-winning dad will come to see him play for Aston Villa next month.
Ayew is the son of Abedi Pele who lifted the European with Marseille following their famous win over AC Milan in 1993.
Aston Villa’s new striker was just a toddler during his father’s finest hour, but has been inspired by the achievement ever since.
Ayew wants his dad to visit Villa Park for the October 24 Premier League match against Swansea, which could pit him against brother Andre.
“I’ve only seen highlights of that game,” he told Villa’s website.
“I was two when it happened. As I got older I started to appreciate what a big thing it was for my dad.
“To win the Champions League is a dream for every footballer. You are lucky if it happens once in your life.
“He is a father like every father – always behind his kids. He is doing a father’s work.
“He inspires everyone in Africa – not just me and Andre. He is behind us 100 per cent.
“I speak to him often. I don’t know when he will come over to see me play – hopefully when we play Swansea!”
