Ghana still remains a top 20 side

Ghana has improved one place up in the current edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released today.The Black Stars now sit at the 19th position on the world ranking table in a month which witnessed little international footballing activity. According to FIFA, the ranking for August which differs only slightly from last month's recorded a few remarkable changes as a result of the devaluation of some results from last year.

Ghana still managed to hold onto second position on the African ranking table after bagging some seven points from the last ranking in July as the Black Star rake in an accumulated build up of 892 points.

Cameroon still stay tops in Africa followed by Ghana at the number two position. Egypt, Ivory Coast and Nigeria follow Ghana in that order.

Ghana and Cameroon still remain Africa’s only presence within the top 20 dominated by Europe.

There has been little change in the regional composition of the top 50 compared to last month. With 29 and ten teams, respectively, Europe and Africa (each up one team) have slightly increased representation. South America still has six teams in the top 50, while Asia now has three (down 1) and CONCACAF has two (down 1).

New European Champions, Spain are still leaders followed by Germany, Italy and Holland in that order.
