Ghana to participate in 13 sporting disciplines at All Africa Games

Accra, Aug. 17, GNA – Ghana will participate in 13 sporting disciplines at the 10th All Africa Games (AAG) scheduled for Maputo, Mozambique.

The AAG, which is fixed for September 3-18, will see Ghana participating in Football, Athletics, Amateur Boxing, Table Tennis, Tae-Kwondo, Karate-Do, Chess and Hockey.

The rest are Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Handball, Netball and Disabled Sports.

Conspicuously missing from the list are; Weightlifting, Judo, Volleyball and Cycling, as the athletes could either not meet the criteria for qualifications or had organizational difficulties.

Information gathered from the National Sports Authority (NSA) by GNA Sports reveals that the disciplines to be participated in were by athletes that qualified to participate in the two week multi event on the continent.

According to the information, the competing disciplines were selected based on standards set by the continental Federations and Ghana’s capability and desire in winning medals in those disciplines.

The qualified athletes in the various disciplines are currently engaged in intensive preparations ahead of the Games in the South African country.

Further checks at the NSA offices indicates that the Authority has been busy preparing accreditation for athletes in the various sporting disciplines.

About 100 athletes from the 13 disciplines are expected to make up the contingent for the Games, with the Chairmen and General Secretaries of the various Associations and other officials of the NSA also making up the team.
