Ghana to play Argentina?

According to some media sources, Argentina have a warm-up match at home to Ghana in Cordoba on Sept. 30

(Ghanasoccernet)A clutch of locally-based Black Stars players will play South American giants Argentina-without their megastars abroad-in an international friendly on 30 September in Cordoba.

The Argentines are on the brink of missing out on an automatic qualification ticket and under-fire boss Diego Maradona needs the warm-up match to test his readiness for two qualifiers in October.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac is expected back in the country before the close of the week to work on his local breed who won him silver at the maiden edition of the CHAN tournament in Ivory Coast.

25-players have began camping in Accra under assistant coach Kwesi Appiah and training is expected to move into full swing with the Serbian's arrival.

Last Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Paraguay left Argentina fifth in the 10-nation South American group, which would mean a playoff with CONCACAF’s fourth-placed nation to reach the World Cup finals.

The twice World Cup winners still have a chance to sneak into the top four and secure automatic qualification but could also slip out of the picture altogether with two games left.

Argentina host Peru and face an away trip to Uruguay next month in the South American qualifiers.

Ghana became the first African country to qualify for the first World Cup finals to be staged in Africa after a 2-0 win over Sudan a fortnight ago in Accra.
