'Ghana will shock the world in Brazil'

Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah says his team will pull a major shock at next year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars secured their third straight appearance at the global piece after a 7-3 aggregate win over North African giants Egypt on Tuesday.

The Ghanaians lost 2-1 in the return encounter but the commanding 6 -1 win from the first leg did the trick for the four-time African champions.

With Ghana’s qualification to the North American country firmly in the bag, Kwesi Appiah has fired a strong warning to other opponents ahead of the World Cup, insisting the Black Stars will be a huge package.

“The team is shaping up but we also understand we have a lot of work to do. I have confidence in my team and I know that we will shock the world,” Appiah said.

“Our aim was to qualify and we designed a strategy to do just that. The best way to defend is to attack.

“We wanted to hit them on the counter attack at the onset whilst soaking pressure but it was not easy. We had to show respect because Egypt is not a small team,” he said.

Appiah was an assistant when the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals in 2010 and hopes to go a step further in 2014.
