Ghana will win Afcon - Joe Addo

Ex- Ghana defender, Joe Addo says he is very optimistic the senior national the team will win the ongoing 29th Africa Nations’ Cup in South Africa.

The Black Stars have gone over three decades without winning the tournament and that has become a worry for most Ghanaians specially lovers of the national team. The last time Ghana won the trophy was in the 1982 edition hosted by Libya where the current coach of the side, Kwesi Appiah was a playing member of that team.

Addo who made 44 appearances for the Black Stars and is now the International Relations Officer of Glo Ghana Premier League side, Berekum Chelsea told GBC URA Radio Sports that this team is capable of ending the country’s Nations’ Cup trophy drought.

“Our team is very capable of bringing the cup back to Ghana. I have spoken to a couple of the players and indications are that they are all eager to end the nation’s trophy drought,” Addo said.

According to him, watching how the team improved after their sloppy game against DR Congo, tells him that the boys are ready to win the cup for mother Ghana, adding that, even though the team is relatively a young side, and with a lot of expectation on them from Ghanaians, the technical team has managed to motivate the players to do well for the nation hence his confidence that the team will come home with the ultimate trophy.

Ghana fought hard to beat Cape Verde two nil with both goals coming from substitute Mubarak Wakaso to book a place in the last four of the tournament which also see Ghana now equal Nigeria’s record of four consecutive semi final appearances. The Black Stars made it to the last four in 2008, 2010, 2012 and now 2013. Whilst Nigeria too made it to the semi finals four times consecutively from 2000 to 2006

The Black Stars will now take on neighbours to the North, Burkina Faso who eliminated Ghana’s neighbours to the East, Togo via a 1-0 victory on Sunday night.
