Ghana winger Abeyie fails Valladolid trials

Ghanaian winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie will have to look elsewhere after failing on trials with Spanish side Real Valladolid.

The La Liga outfit were eager to take the former Arsenal player, who terminated his contract with Panathenaikos, but the one-time pacey winger was unsuccessful.

“Abeyie has not lived up to expectation,” coach Juan Ignacio Martínez told Inside Spanish Football. “He came here so we could have a look at how he is physically and we’ve already made a final decision. He’s far from what we were expecting.”

He added: “He would have needed at least 15 days to recover his principal virtue and strength, his speed.”

The former Dutch Under-20 player who has also featured for Spartak Moscow has basically been a club-trotting player and yet to settle. Turkish side Gazientep BB are likely to give him a lifeline.
