Edmund Yeboah is the worlds fastest among 14 year olds. E.Y can be Swedens big star in the future. He is now competing with the senior boys in Sweden and just last saturday he clocked 6.99sec in the 60m(heats) indoor race at S?trahalen in Stockholm Sweden.
He could not run in the finals due to a muscle pull he felt at the end of the race which slowed him a bit towards the end.
He run 100m at 10.78sec at the begining of the summer of 2002 which sent him right into the history books. Only the American Curtis Johnson has run faster, 10.64sec, at that age in 1988.
E.Y. says, he hope to rununder 10.60 in 100m and keen to run under 22 sec. in 200m which he could'nt do last year. He just hopes to be free from injuries. He was not at the Scandic Indoor games in S?trahallen last saturday.
Fredrik Bergfors won the A-Final 7.09sec. a tenth of a second slower than Yeboahs heat time of 6.99.
He came to Sweden as a 5-year old. He was surprised to run 10.78sec last year. He had just come home from a training camp in the USA and never thought he could make that time.
The threat against Yeboah is of course the attention his times get and the enormous expectations on him. But he and his coach are aware of this. He is matured for his age and they have worked very much mentally. its gone very well so far as to how he manages the attention on him.
He is the best among 14-19 year olds in Sweden. Yeboah is short and very quick starter. He is 165cm long and he says he probably will grow a bit over 170cm in the end.
This however is not a disadvantage as most sprinters are shorter today. Worlds fastest man Tim Montgomery is 178cm, and Maurice Green is 176cm. He has a long way to get to them, he is exactly 1sec. to Montgomerys world record.
