Ghanaian duo crown champions in Austria

David Atanga David Atanga

Austria based Ghanaian pair of David Atanga and Lawrence Atti Ziggi have won the domestic championship with Salzburg after a stellar campaign in the top flight.

The duo featured sparingly across the season but ended their breakthrough season with the league winners’ medals for their respective roles.

The pair both started the season with the junior side but series of impressive outings saw them promoted to the first team midway through the campaign.

Pocket size Atanga inked his name into the good books of Salzurg at the start of the season with fantastic performances in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers to add to his 10 league fixtures.

The Red Bull Academy graduate then took a step down the topflight to aid their reserve side Leifereing in the second tier league with 10 goals in 22 appearances.

“It is a very big achievement for me as a footballer to have won my first major league trophy. I played in the UEFA Champions League and some very important matches across the season and to have won the league at the end of the season, this is a very big achievement for me. I am looking at scoring more goals beyond my current goals and getting more playing time”, Atanga told sportscrusader.com.

Compatriot and Black Satellites custodian, Lawrence Atti Ziggi, also landed himself the winners medal despite his injury woes which forced him back to the second tier side all season. The gargling goalkeeper warmed the bench for the senior side in the few times that he was called upon to defend the colours of Salzburg.

Ralfael Dwamena however missed out on the winners medal having been restricted to only the team B across the season.
