The Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) have called off their strike on lower tier leagues games after meeting with the acting Ghana FA boss Fred Crentsil on Tuesday.

The leadership of RAG held discussion with the Ghana FA’s top hierarchy where they were assured of boosted safety at match venues especially in the lower tier leagues.

The Referees Association had resolved to withdraw their services following acts of assaults visited on their members in recent weeks.

Young referee Kwame Kyei Andoh died days after suffering physical assault from fans in a third tier match almost a fortnight ago.

That sad development was followed by another attack on referee Ali Alhassan in a Division One game over the weekend whilst the Ghana FA continues its investigations into Kyei Andoh’s death case.

The referee’s therefore resolved to withdraw their services for lower tier league matches – citing inadequate security as their reasons.

RAG however rescinded this resolution after meeting with officials of the Ghana FA led by acting President Fred Crentsil.

The referees were assured of boosted safety at all match venues to ensure their safety and to provide an enabling environment for them to discharge their duties without fear for their lives.

The Ghana FA also assured RAG it will continue to look into reported cases of assault on their members and will hand out the appropriate sanctions in their pursuit of justice and fairness.
