Ghanaian winger Augustine Boakye made his debut for St. Etienne in their French Ligue 1 match against AS Monaco on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
The 23-year-old, who recently transferred from Austrian side Wolfsberger, entered the game as a second-half substitute. Unfortunately, St. Etienne lost the match 1-0, with Takumi Minamino scoring the decisive goal for AS Monaco in the 28th minute.
Boakye's transfer reportedly earned Wolfsberger around five million euros, highlighting the importance of the move for both clubs. The former WAFA academy graduate signed a three-year contract with St. Etienne this summer.
In addition to Boakye's debut, fellow Ghanaian Mohammed Salisu played for AS Monaco in the same match.
Boakye had an impressive season in the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring 10 goals and providing 6 assists in 27 appearances. He is expected to bring the same level of performance to his new team.
Meanwhile, GhanaWeb is set to premiere a documentary on playwright Uncle Ebo Whyte on Monday, August 19, 2024. Watch the trailer below:
