The disqualification of Team Ghana in the Men's 4x100m relay event at the 2024 Olympic Games has got some Ghanaians talking on social media.

The disqualification was a result of a delayed third and final changeover from the third leg to the anchor leg.

Rasheed Saminu, the first leg, got off to a good start, but he struggled with his changeover to the second leg, Benjamin Azamati, which affected the momentum of their race.

Azamati got his change to the third leg, Ibrahim Fuseini, right, but the final change to the anchor leg, Joseph Paul Amoah, was again delayed and happened outside the required zone. This made their sixth place in Heat 2 with a time of 38.62s invalid.

China emerged as the winner of the heats, clocking 38.24s. France came second with 38.34s, while Canada took the third spot with 38.39s.

Reacting to Ghana’s performance in the Men’s 4x100 relay event some Ghanaians expressed their disappointment while others wished the team better luck despite their shortcomings.

However, the change in the team’s lineup also got several fans questioning why the technical handlers had to make such a decision for a winning team that made the country proud months ago at the African Games.

While the team’s sloppy baton change has been criticized, the most talked about issue has been Azamati’s sunglasses he has been wearing.
