Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan says he is loved across the length and breadth of Ghana.
Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time topscorer despite expressing displeasure about how Ghanaians praise their hero lamented that he is loved by most of the Ghanaian populace.
The former captain of the Black Stars in an interview said he is yet to receive the needed praise from Ghanaians for his immense contributions to the Black Stars but is of the view that almost the entire population loves him.
“I feel like people love me more than the people who don’t which is a balance thing. I think 90% of the Ghanaian populace love me but the negative once causes more damage than the positive once”
“Me feel unappreciated, the records are there. Just recently I have seen people saying a lot of good things about me on social media but I do ask myself why didn’t they said it before when I was in my prime causing problems for defenders”
“Now that we are home and I am 34 years now, people want to retire me. They think I have retired and that want to say good things about me. Sometimes it feels good but sometimes I just sit down and shake my head”
“I’m also a fan of social media, I remember somebody tweeted about Ronaldo that he has scored in ten consecutive tournaments that is where you will see a Ghanaian writing, oh Asamoah Gyan did this and I do ask myself why you didn’t say it before. You want somebody to praise his hero before you counter that person” he emphasized.
Gyan is the most capped player for Ghana with 109 appearances.
