Theophilus Wilson Edzie, President of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) has entreated all Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of swimming in case of any emergency that requires any individual to swim as a safeguard his or her life.

Swimming has numerous health benefits for instance swimming burns lots of calories, when you swim its protect the joints from stress and strain which further builds the cardio respiratory fitness.

In an exclusive interview with sportscrusader.com the President said “swimming is not only a competitive sport but a means of recreation and protection.The technicalities involved in floating in the water takes years of practice to perfect”.

He emphasized how the people of Ghana had the passion to swim but the unavailability of the standard pool has being a detriment to the progress of the sport.

Mr.Edzie also emphasized importance of water and how swimming could lead to water bodies been preserved. He said “nobody will like to go and swim in a water which is dirty, if anyone sees someone polluting the water he or she would quickly react to the situation and salvage it.

The cultivation of swimming as a form of recreation could help us build a strong and health nation that will automatically slash the health budget, he added.
