New York Red Bulls defender Gideon Baah will miss four to five months of action after breaking his tibia (leg) in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Portland Timbers.

The club confirmed his injury layoff on Monday after he was sent for surgery.

“To have this happen to him is painful for everyone,” head coach Jesse Marsch told Red Bulls communications specialist Eric Giacometti of Baah's injury.

Baah will be making a return to the treatment room after already missing large chunks of the season to injury

The 24-year-old's first was back in March when he suffered a hamstring strain.

The former Asante Kotoko left-back joined New York Red Bulls from Finnish side HJK Helsinki in the offseason.
