Girl 11 wins 800 metres at John Teye Memorial meet

Accra, May 18. GNA - Irene Vogt, an 11-year old Primary Four pupil running for Yellow House was the toast of students, tutors and parents at the First Cowbell/ John Teye School Athletics Competition when she clocked 1min. 41 sec. to win the 800 metre race from a field that included Senior Secondary School students.

For her prize, She received Cowbell products, a certificate and a cash prize donated by Mr O. T. John Teye, Director of the school. Irene also won the high jump in the Primary category. Red House won the Inter House Competition with 137 points, followed by Yellow House with 143 points. Green House was third with 155 points while Blue House placed fourth with 115 points.

In his closing remarks, Mr John Teye asked teachers to encourage students who were handicapped academically, but exhibited traits of athleticism to realise their potentials so that they would distinguish themselves in various sporting disciplines and achieve greatness and wealth.
